Asian Food in it's Best

Posted by mia_sjcl on 1/21/2008

We were unexpectedly pleased with the food, portion and the price this restaurant had to offer. We are very particular with Asian food as we have tried what is truly authentic and what is not, we are constantly looking for a place that deviates from the normal everyday fastfood chinese take-out places have to offer, and we have found this place. The food is a fusion of flavors of a variety of Asian spices and yet they come together harmoniously. We tried unique sushi creations, which were priced right, generously portioned and wonderfully tasting. The usual Pad Thai was not usual at all. They put their own twist to it, it tasted different but it was very good, the same goes for the Pork Katsu. Even the kids Chicken Katsu was devoured with no hesitation by my 3 and 5 year old kids. They even managed to put a simple dish like the Tuna Tataki to a higher level. It was sliced thicker than average, filled a good sized plate and accompanied by a sauce of their own creation. Flavors just blended together perfectly inside your mouth. The area was indeed a bit cramped and with it's constant fill of customers might want to consider expansion. All in all, you have a knowledgeable staff, affordable prices and most impotantly.... unique and delicious food. What more do you need?

Terrible Food & Disappointing Service

Posted by butlesh on 8/24/2007

After reading an overview of Fusion Point in the Folio Weekly and cross-referencing that with the 5 star review on citysearch, I was excited to try the restaurant last night. Unfortunately, the food was terrible and the service was disappointing. Food - I ordered one sushi roll and one teriyaki steak entree. The server mistakenly providede me with teriyaki chicken, as opposed to the steak that I ordered, so I tried that along with my roll. The rice in the sushi roll was overcooked, the teriyaki sauce was extremely salty and the chicken was dry. The curry rice that came with the dinner was decent, but it contrasted sharply with the teriyaki. I am a fan of fusion, but the restaurant needs to carefully rethink its food pairings. Service - It took over 20 minutes for the sushi to arrive and as previously stated, I was provided with the wrong dinner entree. When I inquired about the wait time, the server simply said that she was not responsible for putting in the sushi order! The kicker came when the staff failed to ask a loud and obnoxious customer to lower her tone. I can tolerate a lot of things and I am reluctant to leave a restaurant beore my meal is completed, but I could not tolerate the explicatives that this woman continuously espoused. I'm talking F@#@ this and F%$^ that. Overall, it was a horrible experience and I will not return. If the food had been good or even decent, I may have given it another try . . . but as things stand I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Good Sushi (I hear) and Great Everything Else

Posted by Ann E. on 3/20/2007

The atmosphere is a bit cramped, but very warm and comfortable and I hear this place has some of the best sushi (from everyone else I go with, who eat sushi). I know, however, that their chicken teriyaki, served in an adorable ceramic boat, is amazing, which is a difficult dish with which to impress, as it is rather common. At sushi places, a lot of the other dishes fall by the wayside and they don't concern themselves as much about their other food, but Fusion Point is different. I felt their prices were appropriate with the food, a feeling I did not get at Yamato Japanese Steak House.

My favorite in St. Augustine!

This restaurant is a treasure! I have enjoyed their food for many years....each meal is delicious, beautifully prepared and presented. My favorite is the Vegie/Tofu Curry or the Pan Fried Noodles, but everything I've tried is THE best! The appetizers and sushi are excellent, too.
