The Castillo de San Marcos National Monument is an outstanding reminder of the historic Spanish colonization of Florida. It was built between 1672 and 1695 from coquina, a virtually indestructible limestone comprised of broken corals and seashells and well enough built that enemies never penetrated the fort. Visitors can tour the fort, which features many exhibits and displays throughout the complex, and watch living history demonstrations during some days. It is located in downtown Saint Augustine near the Spanish Quarter Museum and the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum.
Open daily 8:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m.
Entry fee (7 day pass): Adults $6; Children 15 and under are free.
